Hi!
My name is Sonja Gilliam, and I’m a girls mom and a health and wellness from sunny California.
Let’s be friends! I love meeting new friends online, so please stay in touch with me on my social media channels or contact me if you have a question or just want to chat!
10 Facts about Me:
1. I am from Ulm, Germany. I was born in Ulm, a gorgeous university town in the south of Germany ca. 1.5 hours west of Munich. I lived in the Ulm area my whole life. School, University, work and I met my American husband in Ulm.
2. I am a Mama to 2 beautiful girls. My girls are my world. My youngest just turned one and I try to keep them out of my social media presence as much as I can. It’s everyones personal decision but I decided for myself to keep they appearance to a minimum. When my baby was small it was okay for me to share a bit more because I know how much her face will change but now that she is 1 I will also showing her less.
3. I’m a semi professional singer. I am singing on all kinds of stages since my late teenage years. I was the front singer in 3 different Rock cover bands and sang concerts for 100 and up to 10K people. I love being on stage and sing. It’s my element, my happy place. After I had my 2 girls and moved to the States it was hard to find my way back into the music industry. But since 2018 I am the proud back ground singer of one of the top local band here in San Diego. Oliver James. We are doing only originals all written by our incredibly talented front man Oliver James. Check us out on Spotify or Youtube.
4. I have a German University Degree in Computer Science. This is something between a bachelor and a Master and yes I can code and all that. We were 300 students in my class and only 20 girls from which only 8 graduated. It was so freaking hard and I am really proud I made it through. Also coding was never my passion really. I always wanted to do fashion design or hairstylist but my dad talked me out of it.
5. I love sport. Especially tennis. I am playing tennis my whole life and it was so hard that I was not able to play during my 2 pregnancies. I missed it so much. I also love to go to my favorite mommy and baby exercise called Stroller Strides. This group has really saved me when I was a new mom with a little baby in a new country.
6. I’ve watched Gilmore Girls from beginning to end at least several dozen times. If you’ve watched the show, you understand why. It’s the greatest piece of television ever created and never fails to make me laugh and cry.
7. I’m just as comfortable in a dress, heels, and full makeup as I am bare-faced in jeans, a hoodie, and a pair of Converse sneakers. And the thing is… both versions are 100% me. While I tend to show my ultra-girly side of myself more on my blog and social media channels, you’ll definitely see my low-maintenance side if you watch me on Instagram Stories (@Sonja_Gilliam_Blog)!
8. I’m passionate about healthier choices for everyone. I want to educate and create awareness about the huge quality and safety gap we have in the United States when it comes to ingredients in personal care or nutrition products. What is a standard in Europe since 10 years or more has not even made it over the pot to the US and highly toxic ingredients are used all around us. It is not that hard to know what to look out for and to make healthier choices for yourself and your family. I am here to help with that.
9. I love DIY. Especially crochet. Yes I crochet and knit. But crochet I like a bit better. I learned it from my Oma Hanna and every time I crochet I feel really close to her. I love that and hope one day I can teach my girls . I am obsessed with crocheting bun hats for all ages and sizes. I even had a Etsy shop for a while but I preferred making them for friends and family. If you like a bun hat or anything else just contact me. You can find some of my creations on my Facebook Page @ Sonja Gilliam Blog
10. I have the BEST family and group of friends a girl could ask for. Seriously, I am so blessed to have such a wonderful group of people in my life. I love my family and friends more than words can say and cherish each and every moment I get to spend with them.
